Last week was the World Dairy Expo in Madison Wisconsin. This was my 18th year attending the Expo and the Association’s 26th year there. We went in this year knowing that there is an extremely limited amount of dairy quality hay.
Traffic at the booth was good throughout the show with people glad to hear prices a little lower than last year but wondering if there will be any quality hay available. Dairy hay was being priced at $1.00 to 1.20 per Relative Feed Value Point, depending on quality and many dairymen were inquiring as to the availability of hay testing 150 to 180 Relative Feed Value.
We visited with dairymen from all across the country as well as many international visitors. There were a lot inquiries for exporting hay into other countries such as China, Mexico and the Middle East.
